Early Xmas

Yesterday I had a quick Christmas with my boyfriend as he went to his parents for the holidays. I also had my last shift at work before Christmas yesterday as well & my manager had little gift bags for us.

 

My boyfriend got me these two candles from Bath & Body Works; spiced apple toddy & marshmallow fireside, & a best of the 80's CD. Anyone who knows me really well knows I LOVE 80's music, totally listening to this CD as I write this post :) This CD features: The Pointer Sisters, Deniece Williams, WHAM!, Boy Meets Girl, Eddie Murphy, Dead or Alive, Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, Cyndi Lauper (looooveee), Terence Trent D'Arby, Men at Work.

 

He also got me this cardigan from Jacob, its super cozy. They didnt have my size so I got one size up & its the perfect sweater to snuggle up in!

This is what I got James! I dont think hes ever had a proper cologne of his own before so we spent some time at my work to choose a scent he really liked. Burberry London for men was his pick.

This is what I got from work, such a thoughtful gift bag! As you can see I got into the chocolates immediately, white chocolate is my favourite. Kat Von D: Tattoo Chronicles Candelabra Edition

Hey everyone! This is a review on the Kat Von D: Tattoo Chronicles Candelabra Edition eyeshadow palette. I got this as a present from my Aunt & Uncle (thanks!) & I thought it was so beautiful I had to post a review & swatches! Its sold at Sephora & retails for $49 USD, $59 CAD.

This is the front of the palette, the whole case is a black velvety material & the red is smooth metallic. The design was drawn by Kat & it opens like a book.

This is the makeup part of the palette. The left side is a mirror surrounded by shiny red & black designs, again by Kat. Then there are 12 eye shadows, 0.053 oz each & a full size Sin-Full Lash mascara in Puro Amor.

Overall this palette is beautiful. The designs are gorgeous & the art work is amazing. The packaging itself is very boxy & strong with a light magnet keeping it shut. The eye shadows are a little powdery but are super pigmented. The majority are shimmer or glitter, the texture's remind me of Urban Decay. I havent opened the mascara yet, I will do a separate post on that when I finish the three I already have on the go. I think this palette is really great, I wish the shadows were a little less powdery but the quality is still pretty top.

Happy 21st Birthday to ME :)

I got a tattoo in honour of my mom. She believed loved ones reincarnated into hummingbirds & butterflies. Her favourite was hummingbirds, she had figurines & all sorts of hummingbird decorations throughout the house after my Nana (her mom) passed away. When she was in the hospital she told me she wanted my tribute tattoo to be of a hummingbird, & of course I added the breast cancer ribbon since that's what took her away from me. This is located at the top of my left boob "over my heart". The star is from a previous tattoo I got 3years ago.

 This is what my boyfriend got me for my birthday & of course my kitty had to join in. These are really warm, thick, ribbed leggings from Jacob, I have a huge obsession with leggings. Then he got me "Dressed to Dazzle" lipglass from MAC & "Unconditionally Fabulous" nail laquer from MAC.

These are from my dad, I bought all of these & he wrapped them. My mom always shopped for me so he had no idea where to start lol. I didnt realize how many shirts I had purchased until I took this photo. The dark brown top, the mint green top, the black top & the tights are from Costa Blanca, the light brown top, the blue top & the floral top are from Forever21, the purple top is from RW & Co., the pj pants are from Jacob, the booties are from Aldo & the perfume is Viva La Juicy by Juicy Couture (amaaaaazing scent!)

 This is from my brother & his girlfriend. The chocolates are from Purdy's, the nail polish is from American Apparel, not sure where the beautiful scarf is from (everyone knows my love for zebra print!) & a $75 MAC giftcard (The Bay counters only)

  

This is the only thing I got from my mom, she had this put away for my 21st birthday since I was 5years old. This ring was my Great Great Grandmothers ring. It's over 100 years old & is actually my birthstone. The centre is the turquoise rock surrounded by little diamond chips. I was suppose to receive this from my mom herself, she always believed that 21 was a big birthday. Unfortunately I wasnt able to share it with her but she is always in my heart. I love you mom <3

Thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday & celebrated with me. It was a great day. I slept in till noon, watched a movie with my boyfriend, had a mint hot chocolate from Second Cup, got my tattoo done, went to dinner with my dad, my brother & his girlfriend, my boyfriend, my roommate & my moms bestfriend & her 2 kids (they got me a $65 MAC giftcard <3) who are like family to me. I love all of you so much, thanks for making this such a special day for me & surrounding me with your love & support. It was hard without my mom.

Another Update

Hey everyone!
Its been one week since my mom passed away. I wanna thank everyone for messaging me & supporting me through this tough time. I wanted to let everyone know that Im doing okay & I will be getting back on track with more postings & lots of other beauty related things. My stress is decreasing every day, it is much easier to live when you're not watching a loved one die. There is a sense of relief when they pass even though your heart is broken & you're going to miss them beyond belief. My mom told me a couple days before she died that she doesnt want me to slow my life down to grieve so I will be picking myself up & doing what I love in honour of her. Look out for a makeup look this week & updates on my surgery!

UPDATE

Hey everyone.

I know its been a long time since my last blog post, but things have been really busy & really stressful. My moms in the hospital with liver failure so my family & I are trying to spend as much time with her as possible before she passes. The doctors say it'll be within the next couple weeks unfortunately & on top of that Im working & in school full time. I just really havent been in the mood to do blog posts when I have the time so Im really sorry about that.
On a positive note, Im doing something really exciting in 2 weeks. As you all know Ive been looking into getting rhinoplasty done, & well, Im getting it done Oct. 28. I had my 1st consultation a couple weeks ago & my second one with computer imaging is this Tuesday. Im really happy Im doing this & I cant wait to share my experience with everyone plus pictures! I have a youtube video on my first consultation & I will be uploading one on my 2nd, right after my surgery & some update ones as the weeks go on during recovery.

Vichy Dercos Mineral Soft Shampoo Review

This product was given to me by a Vichy rep back in July. I used this product constantly for three weeks & then just off & on when I went blonde. There are quite a few things I like about it, however there are some cons to it as well.

What I really like about the shampoo is the bottle it comes in. The squirt top is nice, I’ve always hated bottles you have to pick up & squeeze upside down. The colour of the shampoo is completely clear which shows there are no dyes or colourants. I’ve also always thought that clear shampoo gives the illusion of cleaner hair, maybe thats just me though lol. The smell is extremely refreshing. It smells very clean but it is a really strong scent. This product has no parabens, colourants or silicone. All of these things are a plus for colour treated or chemically treated hair. This shampoo has a really gentle formula that can be used on babies as young as 3 months old. It contains minerals from Vichy Thermal Spa Water. This product is marketed for being ideal to Cliniderm users.

What I wasn’t too fond of was the fact that the scent was very strong. Even though it is formulated without 3 major “bad” ingredients, it clearly has fragrance in it which can be a bit drying to the hair. It also contains sulphates. It DOESNT contain “sodium lauryl sulphate” but it DOES have its sister ingredient “sodium laureth sulphate”. This ingredient helps the shampoo lather & is damaging to the hair, but it isn’t as bad as sodium lauryl sulphate. One thing I noticed when I used this shampoo was that my hair didn’t feel very soft when rinsing it out. I had to use a conditioner after.

Overall my hair felt nice once conditioned & dried, it also shined really nicely. I didn’t notice much of a difference in stopping my red hair from fading & Im really not a fan of the fact that it prides itself of not containing all these harsh chemicals but it contains one of the most known ingredients to stay away from; sulphates. This shampoo isn’t bad, but for the size & price (around $20 CAD for 400ml) I’d say there are other shampoo’s that can do better & don’t contain any sulphates. The cons to this shampoo outweighed the pro's in my opinion.

Breast Cancer Inspired

At work this past weekend we had a charity event for the Look Good Feel Better Foundation for women with cancer. As you all know this is very close to home so I did a pink look in honour of my mom. I did more cranberry like tones around my eyes to make it a little more flattering because pink usually gives my eyes the illusion that I cried all day or that they're very irritated.

Boyfriend.

Ive been asked by James not to put him on my blog but I feel like he deserves to mentioned lately. Hes been such a great boyfriend to me these past 10.5 months. We've been through ALOT together; good & bad, but he always seems to surprise me everyday with how loving he is towards me. We barely ever see eye to eye & we respond to things so differently but thats what I think makes us click. Everything Im not, he is & everything hes not, I am. Hes my other half, completely. I just wanted to give him a quick mention for how supportive he's been through some of the tough times Ive had to deal with this past year & I cant wait till he moves in with me in November so I can see him whenever I want :)

New Tattoo

I got this tattoo today for my mother, it is her handwriting. I have a bigger tattoo planned out for when she passes away but I wanted to get one while she's still here so she can see. This was taken about 30min after the tattoo was done so it hasnt been washed yet & some wiped away ink settled into my skin texture. This tattoo is perfect & I couldnt have asked for a better job.

I got it done at Good Point in Oakville, Ontario. My artists name is Luke.

Very Important Message + Update!

Due to my lack of posts this month, Im sure its been pretty obvious that I have been busy. Mostly to blame is my job, I took over some full time shifts for a coworker & I worked 9 days straight which is pretty tiring. Last weekend I went on a 5 day vacation with my boyfriend to my cottage which is a 6-7h drive from where I live. No internet access up there. Also, my camera has been super finicky lately. Its really old & decided it was gonna break for a couple days. I left it off & it sorted itself out last week so new makeup posts should be up soon. Im currently up at my cottage right now with my dad to close it for the winter & am using his mobile wireless internet stick on his laptop (didnt have this last weekend) so thats why I can make a quick post at the moment. I just wanted to update all of you on whats going on in my life as there is a major thing that I feel I need to address.

I start school on Sept 6th, so thats next Tuesday & Im pretty happy. I love having routine in my life & I feel I get stressed out if I dont have it, especially with shift work. I am starting up a new diet next week as well so look out for blog posts on that. I will be doing Youtube video's on my diet/weight loss journey which is what I'll be posting here. Its much easier to talk about it than write it. Also, this next week I may continue with very few posts just because I am going to be heading to Toronto almost everyday after class to visit my mom..........

What I really want to address is my mom. For almost 5 years now my mom has been battling breast cancer that was at stage 5 when diagnosed (there are 5 stages of cancer diagnosis, stage 5 being the worst). She was diagnosed December 17, 2006.. Just 3 days after my 16th birthday. Stage 5 breast cancer means that the cancer is not only in the breast but it has spread all over the body. She has tumors everywhere which have deteriorated alot of her bone & muscles.

A couple months ago it attacked her liver & since then everything has been going down hill. She was up at my cottage for about a month this summer & from previous years she has always thrived up here but this year she barely had the energy to go down to the beach, which is only 10 steps from the front door. 2 days ago she was admitted into the hospital because she cant function properly anymore. She cant take care of herself on her own, she needs constant care. Her memory is bad, she is very weak & the simplist tasks like going to the bathroom or getting up from a chair is pretty much impossible for her. She is going to be in the hospital for atleast a week for the doctors to assess her and when they feel she can come back home, she will have a care giver looking after her while my dad is at work.

She has been doing chemo for the last 2 years (the first 3 were radiation) & they had to put all treatments on hold due to her white blood cells being almost non existant. White blood cells are needed to fight off infection & keep you healthy. Its extremely important that she builds these up again because something as little as the sniffles could kill her if she has no immune system.

The reason I am letting anyone who comes across my blog know all of this information about my mother is because I ask you all from the bottom of my heart to put her in your prayers or thoughts. Im only 20yrs old, Im not ready to lose my mother. I want to do whatever I can in order to keep her alive long enough to see me continue to grow & conquer all my goals. My mother is my world, my life & just recently has become my best friend. I hope to God she sees me graduate college. I hope this touches all of you & you pray for her & send all your positivity her way. She is a big believer in prayer & positive energy. Even though she doesnt know any of you, Im very confident she will be able to sense every single prayer, thought & positive energy sent her way.

I love my mom to death & please donate whatever you're able to any cancer association. Breast cancer is the #1 cancer among woman & is becoming more common in men. We all need to band together to help concquer such a nasty disease that plagues so many families. Its an extremely hard situation to deal with and I am doing the best I can to keep myself strong & collected for her sake when all I wanna do is just fall apart. If anyone else is going through the same thing, or has lost a loved one, my heart goes out to you. Its not easy, but unfortunately its reality. Support is all I ask.

Im so sorry Ive been away for so long. I will have a post updating all of you on my life soon, just be cautious when reading it... there will be a heavy topic throughout that whole post. As for this look, this is one of my everyday eyes. Yes its a little dramatic for everyday but the only time I do basic natural looks are when Im pressed for time or just dont feel like doing much that day. Rhinoplasty!

It has been made official that I am getting a nose job within the next 8 months! Im really excited about this because ever since I hit puberty (around 11) I wanted my nose changed. When I was little I had the cutest nose ever & then for some reason my nose thought that puberty meant it should grow up as well & turned into the ugly thing I have on my face now. I have an extremely Scottish nose, I really dont think you can get more Scottish than my nose lol. For almost 10 years now I've been asking my parents for rhinoplasty (nose job) & my mom finally gave the go ahead. She bribed me back in highschool that if I finished post secondary she'd pay for half & now that Im graduating in April, she said I will definitely be getting it done by graduation at the latest. We're thinking about scheduling my surgery during xmas break since I get 4 weeks off, I'd have time to heal up & not miss any classes or have a broken nose for the start of summer. The reason I am making this post is because I will be posting about my journey on searching for the perfect doctor & the entire process of my plastic surgery & also my experience with the actual surgery & the anxiety/mental affects it includes. Because I am in the makeup industry, I feel as though appearance means more to me than the average person but even before I hit my teenage years this is something that I had decided I was going to do one day. Im extremely excited as of right now but Im sure I'll become much more scared & anxious as the process goes on & my surgery date draws nearer.

Im going to be honest about my photo's, I do photoshop the shape of my nose. I am extremely sensitive about it & it takes alot of courage to show what it actually looks like. Its not extremely noticeable when you meet me in person, but when I tell people I photoshop it, thats when they say they can see it but without being told, its not a drastic change from the front. I never do side profile's because of it. These are two photos of my nose unedited, hopefully you'll be able to understand why this surgery is so important to me. If you dont, then keep all opinions to yourself. My decision cannot be swayed.
